thankful

This week I have been working on teaching Princess what it means to be thankful.

Trying to explain the concept of "thankfulness" to a four-year-old has made me think a lot about how much I have to be thankful for.

I am thankful for my husband, who works hard every day to support his family, then comes home to be the best daddy in the whole world.  I could write a whole post on all the reasons I am thankful for my guy, but suffice to say, I couldn't ask for a better one.

I am thankful for my two beautiful, funny, completely different, sometimes annoying but almost always entertaining little girls.  This mom thing is the most challenging job I've ever had, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I am thankful for my sweet sister, the one person in the world who I always want to talk to, who makes me laugh, understands me, and cheers me on in all that I do.  I'm also so thankful my girls will always have a sister of their own to turn to.

I am thankful for my health and the health of my family--my husband, children, siblings and parents.  I am thankful that after a very hard year, my brother is finally cancer-free.

I am so, so thankful for Kelsey, my amazing babysitter without whom I would probably lose my mind.  I consider it divine intervention that she came in to our lives when she did and now I don't know what I would do without her.

I am thankful for my friends, both old and new, and the countless laughs, handful of tears, and many glasses of wine we've shared this past year.

I am thankful for the roof over my head, for a warm cozy bed to sleep in, for a car to drive and food to eat.  I probably don't spend enough time being content with what I have instead of worrying about what comes next, but I realize there are millions of people around the world who would give anything to have what I often take for granted.

I am very blessed.

Happy Thanksgiving,

  1. Beautiful post, Ruth. Brought tears to my eyes.

How fun to see you all together in a pic, and PTL over brother's cancer-free status! When I recently saw him in church, I was reminded of this and my heart rejoiced!

What fun to see J (I see other sibs frequantly)! I think I'll still always remember him as Ruth's tall younger brother. I can so picture him during those years - it's a little strange to see him all grown-up! lol

I often wish I had a sister - and sometimes feel the need to remind the girls (when they're fighting, lol) that a sister is such a gift - friends may come & go in life, but your sister is always there - and she could very well be the best friend you'll ever have.

I agree, it's so easy to get stuck in daily life and living and what's next...especially during this holiday season. Thank you for reminding me of all I have to be thankful for!
